Wakefield Council has agreed to provide £500,000 to help secure professional rugby league in Featherstone after Featherstone Rovers went into administration. The Rugby Football League plans to buy the club's Post Office Road ground and lease it to a new operator, and a successor club is hoped to return to competition from 2027.
