Project to restore rare native trees with DNA testing

A project in the Thames Valley is using DNA testing to help restore black poplar trees, a rare native species whose numbers have fallen. Only 50 are recorded in Oxfordshire, so the work will analyse existing trees, grow new cuttings and plant them in suitable sites. The project is aiming to raise £20,000, and Oxfordshire County Council has committed to match fund up to £10,000.
