Newcastle City Council plans to award football legend Kevin Keegan the Freedom of the City, its highest honour, after his death earlier this year. If councillors approve it at a meeting on 4 November, he will be the first person to receive the title posthumously. The honour will be recorded by inscribing his name in the Banqueting Hall at the Civic Centre.
Catherine Linney, 57, from Sevenoaks in Kent, finished 11th in her age category at the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii after recovering from a serious injury. She now hopes to qualify again and aim for the top 10 in her age group for her 60th birthday.

A pool team from Keighley, Breaking Bad from Pilky's Cue Sports Club and Bar, won the Ultimate Pool League final in Leicester, beating Leicester's Rail Huggers 25-19. The win earned them a £10,000 prize, and they had been formed only four months earlier, before competing against about 200 teams.
