A photography exhibition is marking 30 years of Maggie's centres, which give free practical, emotional and social support to people affected by cancer. Photographer Tabitha Jussa's images capture moments of comfort and conversation inside the centres. The exhibition is at RIBA North in Liverpool until 29 November.
John Jones, an 84-year-old retired engineer, has volunteered for 35 years, playing the accordion to entertain patients and visitors at Macclesfield District General Hospital. He has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for East Cheshire NHS Charity, including money for a family room in the intensive care unit.
Marie Tilley from Arberth found a breast lump in 2017 at the age of 38 and, after a year of being turned away, insisted on a mammogram that confirmed breast cancer. She has since recovered, works as a barber in Arberth and has started a support group with around 30 members.
Tom Conroy, who is 90, still spends an hour and a half in the gym every day and goes on three walks daily. His activity has helped him through health challenges, including cancer, and he has long used exercise to help young people in his community.
