A swan trapped between rocks on a Dorset beach during Storm Austen was rescued by passers-by and an RSPCA inspector. After being checked over by a wildlife charity and found healthy, the bird was released back into the wild at Christchurch.
Pigs that escaped onto a busy road near Basildon have been saved from slaughter after locals raised almost £6,000 towards their care. Eight of the animals are being taken in by a sanctuary, where males and females will be kept apart and three have already been reunited with what appears to be their mother.

Fewer honey bee colonies were lost over last winter in Northern Ireland than the year before, according to a survey by the Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute. About one in four colonies were lost in 2025/26, down from a third the previous year.
