Conservationists have completed the purchase of the 9,500-acre Rothbury Estate in Northumberland after a two-year public appeal raised £30m. The land will be managed to enhance its wildlife and natural heritage, with more than 25,000 people donating to the campaign.

Peterborough City Council has approved plans to put mini-gardens of wildflowers on the roofs of 34 bus stops to support bees and other pollinators. The changes are part of a new bus stop contract that will also bring more comfortable seating and up-to-date passenger information.
Conservationists are working to bring rare manx shearwaters back to the Isle of Canna, off Scotland's west coast, after rats had wiped out the colony there. Forty young birds have been moved from the nearby Isle of Rum following the removal of rats from Canna in 2005.
