Bristol's Full Cycle DJ collective helped create jungle and drum and bass in the early 1990s, blending Jamaican sound systems, acid house and hip hop. The city's music scene remains vibrant, with newer artists such as Nia Archives and Sherelle carrying its legacy forward.
Plans for a performing arts college inspired by the Brit School in London have been approved for Bradford. The free college, called Brit North, is expected to bring more than 550 students and staff into the city centre and aims to open by 2028.
Hundreds of handmade lanterns lit up the night sky over Bradford in a parade that celebrated life and remembered loved ones. Families made lanterns at workshops beforehand, and the evening included giant puppets and live music at Lister Park.
Manchester is set to honour boxer Len Johnson, who was barred from contesting the British title because of his skin colour, with a statue opposite Manchester Victoria Station. Johnson later campaigned against racism, including a successful protest that helped end the colour bar in Manchester pubs.
