A 101-year-old blind World War Two veteran, Gwynneth Pedler, is preparing to march at the Cenotaph for the first time on Remembrance Sunday. She will join more than 40 other blind veterans in honouring those who died.
Peter Swift has been crowned World Sausage Throwing Championship winner for the third year running, with a throw of 148.5ft at the event in Harwich, Essex. The light-hearted contest was started by the local Camra branch to promote local beer and independent butchers and pubs.
Thousands of people watched an illuminated carnival procession in Bridgwater, Somerset, with elaborate carts themed around rock shows, Only Fools and Horses and a circus big top. Carnival clubs spend the whole year preparing their carts, and the evening ended with 210 people taking part in squibbing.
A local councillor in Rufford, Lancashire, and other residents tracked down a thief who had been stealing historic stones from an 18th-century village wall. Using a hidden tracking device placed in a loose stone, they helped police recover the stolen stones and an arrest was made.
